Brick Dinos - Polacanthus

Components:

  • Polycanthus (body, tail and box of spines)

  • Backdrop - standard modulate fabric-sock-over-aluminium-frame.

  • 6x 1 metre sq staging tops, with velcro on some sides.

  • 6x collapsable, aluminium/composite staging legs

  • Green vinyl-wrapped foamboard squares

  • Artificial moss

  • Artificial pine needles

  • PIR Speaker

  • Items are stored in a double stack of grey pallet boxes, plus 6 x staging boards stored separately on top of a flightcase.

Set-up:

  1. Set-up backdrop

  2. Place staging legs in desired final location in front of backdrop. Place in a rectangle 3 pieces left-to-right and 2 pieces front-to-back.

  3. Place each section of staging top onto one staging leg. Make sure the posts on the top of the staging legs go into the holes in the bottom of the staging tops. If they do not fit over the posts on the staging legs, check if the hole in the staging top is unlocked by turning a quarter-turn with an allen key in the spot on the carpeted side, directly above the hole. They may need a little shake to get them properly sited.

    1. Make sure that the veclro edges are all facing outwards, and not being sandwiched between the staging pieces.

    2. Make sure that the protruding locking clamps are slipped into the receiving channel on the pieces next to each other.

    3. Lock each corner onto the staging leg post by turning hte allen key a quarter-turn. Check they are locked.

    4. Lock the staging tops together by using an allen key in each spot on the carpeted side and turning it until it stops. There are 2 carpeted spots on each edge, located next to the protruding metal clamp.

  4. Following the instructions in/on the Polycanthus’ pallet box, use the lifting rods to place the body of the Polycanthus in the desired location on top of the staging.

  5. Following the instructions in/on the Polycanthus’ pallet box, add the tail and insert the LEGO-built locking pin to hold it in place.

  6. Add the spines - matching numbers on the spines and receiving slots.

  7. Lay out the artificial moss to cover the top of the whole of the staging. Smooth out the section covering the Polycanthus’ metal base so it blends into the rest of the moss and camouflages the transition.

  8. Liberally scatter the artificial pine needles to make it look like a pine forest clearing.

  9. Place PIR speaker so it will be triggered when visitors approach the model. Ensure you have access to a power socket and plug in the speaker.

  10. Turn on and set volume as desired.

  11. Add foamboard panels to edges of staging and attach via velcro

  12. Venue are responsible for other lighting.

Other notes:

  • If useful use the pallet box for storage of items during the run of the exhibition BUT be careful not to lose any of the lifting rods or box for holding the removable spines etc. .
