Newsletter - April 2021
April already! This year, as weird as it has been, does seem to be moving quickly. Easter was a blur for us with so much work to get Brick City safely on its way to the US. We really enjoyed the final refresh to the tour, more on that later. We are so excited and feel this week has bought a new sense of freedom with more restrictions being lifted, we already have more tour plans as venues begin to better understand their own roadmap through 2021; don't forget to get in touch for more info on tours we have left to book.
Celebrating a Mardi Gras Parade
As part of the model refresh for our Brick City tour, we wanted to include a celebration piece where we could really go all-out with minifigs having fun. And what better chance for that than a Mardi Gras Parade, where we not only get to enjoy floats, costumes and paradees, but we could also showcase some of the beautiful architecture and ornate balconies of the French Quarter of New Orleans?
Newsletter - March 2021
It has been a busy month here at Warren Elsmore Ltd. As we see the lockdown lifting we are busy planning for the year and this month bring you news on what we have been up to.
Working digitally with Sketchup
SketchUp is important to our design process as it enables us to turn our ideas into something we can show to a customer and they can understand. Almost everything we do is bespoke in some way or another so there aren’t any existing images to show someone or get a message across.
The Joy of LEGO
Join Warren along with author, screenwriter, and LEGO fan Emma Kennedy, as we celebrate the joy of LEGO.
St Pancras Station
One of the very first models Warren ever made as an adult LEGO fan - St Pancras has a special place in our hearts.
Stop Motion build
There are lots of stop motion videos, showing LEGO sets being built. When it comes to creating custom models and creating a stop motion video of their creation - in 5 days - then it’s worth turning to a professional
Christmas in Cambridge
We had great fun collaborating with the Grand Arcade Shopping Centre in Cambridge to create a Christmas scene as part of this year’s festivities. And we are extremely happy with the finished results!
Announcing our COVID-19 Guarantee
Even in normal times - we can’t predict the future. Right now it’s even harder to say when life will be back to normal or what will even happen next week.
What we can guarantee though, is what we can do in order to keep as safe as possible. With years of successful touring behind us, we can also plan ahead as much as possible. To pre-plan for changes whenever they happen. To make sure that we will do as much as we can to help you have a successful show. So, for all of our touring exhibitions we are today announcing our COVID-19 guarantee
Securing against COVID-19
COVID-19 has challenged everyone this year, not lease those in the events and exhibitions sector. Most of our venues have been closed at some point during this year and some are still struggling to re-open.
Thankfully, we have a little good news. We are delighted to announce today that Warren Elsmore Ltd has been awarded a lifeline grant from the governments’ Culture Recovery Fund.
Welcome to our new digs!
All the way back in June of last year, we took ownership of a new property, allowing us (for the first time ever!) to be completely based in one location.
Well, we had a little delay this year (only around 6 months….) but we’re finally finished! The building was actually ready for us to move in January - but of course it’s taken longer to get everything finally complete.
PK Porthcurno will re-open with a new LEGO model
For those paying close attention, this is why we were in the very south west of England a couple of weeks ago!
As part of their 150th anniversary, PK Porthcurno (previously the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum) commissioned us to create a model of the very first transatlantic cable to be brought into the beach.
For those that aren’t aware,
There and back again (From John o'Groats to Land's End)
It only took 3 1/2 years to make this picture!
The left part of this photo was taken in January 2017 and the right hand side today. Mia (the black van) was at John o'Groats - the top of the UK* collecting Brick City, which had been on display nearby in Thurso.
(New!) Brick City opens in Leicester today!
All of our exhibition openings are coming thick and fast now! This week it’s the turn of Leicester Museum (formally the New Walk Museum)
We installed Brick City a little while back, as it was one of the more challenging layouts. Working with the museum, we developed a complete one-way system to help visitors social distance whilst making sure they didn’t miss out on any of the show. It’s actually worked out really well.
Brick History comes to Cambridge (but you'll need to be quick!
Overnight on Sunday, we were in the Grand Arcade in Cambridge. A shopping centre with all the shops shut. Why? To install Brick History throughout the arcade for the next two weeks!
Brick Wonders opens at The Atkinson, Southport
It’s been a very strange summer for everyone this year. Thankfully though, the UK is slowly starting to open up again. With museums and galleries opening as well, what better way to make your visit even more exciting than a LEGO exhibition?
Our response to the Coronavirus, particularly our touring exhibitions.
It’s been a challenging month for us all here.
With staff furloughed to ensure a safe office environment, many projects have had to be put on hold. Similarly impacted have of course been all of our touring exhibitions. With the UK on lockdown, it has been simply impossible to collect or deliver exhibitions as we have previously done.
Stuck at home? It's time to build LEGO!
We are living in crazy times. As I write this, here in the UK, we are in the middle of a global pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus…… So today I’m publishing all of the instructions from my first book, Brick City, here on my website….
