York Minster - St Williams shine

How best to re-create a shrine that hasn’t existed for hundreds of years? Over Easter 2026, we worked with visitors to York Minster to use 100,000 LEGO bricks to create a copy!

By special request, we used yellow bricks for the tomb (at the bottom) and feretory (the container above for the relics). The columns are built from only white bricks - and the remaining arches are designed by all the visitors!

Believe it or not, this whole (unglued) model will be moved into storage for a short while, then will come back out for public display in the summer. To make sure it could be safely moved, we added some metal supports to keep everything straight.

If you’d like to see the shrine in person, along with lots more bricks to create your own build, then make sure to visit during the summer. After that, we’ll pack away all the bricks - ready for the next BIG build!
