Newsletter - October 2021

Here we all are in October wondering how we’re nearly at Halloween, we don't know about you but this year is whizzing by! Before we knew it we found ourselves taking out all of our summer tours, it's been a busy time, so much great feedback from all our venues. Autumn season is in full swing and the studio timetable is full with commission work too!

Green Building

No, I’m not talking about building a LEGO model in green bricks - but reducing our carbon footprint and helping to do our bit to save the planet! Watch the video to find out how we incorporated energy efficiency into our building during the refurb.

You can read the full article on everything we’ve done so far - including the amazing wildflowers that are at the top of this newsletter - and our plans for the next steps here.

Maths Week Scotland

Run by the National Museums of Scotland and now in its fifth year, it gives an opportunity to uncover the maths we take for granted in our lives, and see maths in a whole new light.

We were thrilled to be part of the #ShowYourWorking conversation explaining how we use maths in our work. There’s more maths than you might think working with those little plastic building bricks!

Autumn - where can you see our exhibitions?

For the rest of the Autumn season our tours are all out at some fantastic venues across the UK and Northern Ireland. We are delighted to say the Brick Flicks Plus tour is staying at Newcastle Centre for Life until February 2022. Brick Built has opened at the Carrickfergus Museum, County Antrim. Brick Wonders is on display at the Garioch Heritage Centre, Until the 21st November. And Brick Dinos is at the Galleries Shopping Centre in Bristol!

LEGO Store Edinburgh - Inaugural LEGO User Group Showcase model

Walled Garden in Edinburgh LEGO Store.jpg

In a very proud moment, Teresa installed her model of a Walled Garden as the inaugural model in The LEGO User Group Showcase in the Edinburgh LEGO Store. These showcases have MOCs (My Own Creations) built by AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) on display on a rotating basis.

The Edinburgh Store Showcase is jointly managed by Tartan LUG and Brickish.

Teresa’s model was originally built for a competition run by LEGO Ideas and was among the winning models which went on display in The LEGO House in Billund, Denmark.

And finally…

The thing that gives us the most joy is that finding out that we’ve inspired people who’ve seen our models to go home, get out their LEGO and build.

Just such brilliance happened after 7-year-old Louis visited our Brick History exhibition at The Hold in Ipswitch. He got in touch with us because we had managed to put the iceberg on the wrong side of the Titanic in our model!

He had also gone home to build his own version of the Titanic and shared this fantastic video with us. He’s kindly said that we can share it with all of you too!

Thanks, Louis, and we promise we’ll fix our model so the iceberg is on the correct side!
