Considering a Commission? What to think about
Hello! If you’re considering commissioning your own LEGO model - congratulations! You’re in the right place!
Seriously though, any brick built commission is absolutely something we can help you with. That’s what we do. I’ve been doing this since 2012 and have built pretty much anything you can think of at this point. Whenever we’re contacted by a new client, I’ll usually suggest a chat online or in person first. There is never any expectation that you’ll have a commission built at this point - or even buy it from us if you do - but we really want to make sure that whatever we do propose - it’s going to work. For you.
Before we chat though, there are some things that you can start to think about. It’s quite often that we’ll chat to a customer and propose something that they just thought wasn’t possible - or even building a model in a way that they’d never thought of. All these suggestions though, are based upon the information that you can give us about your idea. Hence this article. It’s a ‘starter for 10’ that will hopefully spark some cool ideas that we can talk about. Please, click through the links - get some inspiration and read look at the options. Have some fun researching ideas, that’s what this business is all about in the end 😏
Have a think about;
What do you want built?
Perhaps a simple question, but maybe you know a brick model is a great idea - but not of exactly what. This is also a simple question to answer too. We can build anything. Well, almost anything! What I mean is that we can always find the best way to build that commission. Sometimes it’s a 3D model, sometimes a 2D mosaic, sometimes something altogether different. Sometimes the model will remain in existence, sometimes it’s a temporary build for just a few days. All of these things are possible - but if you already know what you want, that’s a great start.
What do you want to do with it?
This may be a little more involved. Are you looking for a model to celebrate a one-off event? Is it a model to proudly display in your offices? Is it a model that you would like to take to trade shows? Is it, perhaps, a model just for a photoshoot - so it doesn’t really need to exist at all? Having a good idea of what will happen to the model will really help us propose the best solution for you. We’ve created models purely for photography that are destroyed afterwards (we can do that part too, btw). We’ve also created models that tour the world in custom made ATA flightcases. Again - most things are possible here - but we don’t want to propose something for you that won’t work or is too over the top. Importantly here is how much you’d like your staff involved. Is this just a ‘look at it’ piece or something more involved? We can involve the entire company if you like…
Is there something special about your model?
Adding lighting, video screens, sound effects, etc - we’ve done them all. We’ve created models that are designed to be taken apart and built again many, many times. We’ve created models that can be suspended from the ceiling, or build around columns. We’ve even salvaged parts from retired airplanes! Each of these extras adds a different dimension to the model - but they are all possible.
Do you have an idea of what the model might be like?
Specifically, What colours and what style ? Do you have a budget? I won’t repeat all those articles here, but if you have time to read them through it should really help you we hope. Again, the password is ‘excitement’ because that’s what we hope a model will bring you!
Hopefully this page might give you some ideas of what could be possible. Even so, we love to be challenged so if you have an idea that you have no idea how to deliver - I’d love to hear it! So lets have that chat and see where things go. Who knows what what we’ll build next!
Warren.
