The boundlessly imaginative variety of techniques is surpassed only by the insights that visitors will glean and the inspiration from this body of work they will apply in their own creations.
The Artist
Rocco Buttliere is an internationally recognised artist - professionally trained as an architect - with a passion to recreate this heritage in bricks.
A lifelong brick builder, Rocco began his current body of work of 1:650 scale models in 2009. Since then, he has created dozens of original, brick-built works depicting a multitude of world landmarks, and geographically, historically accurate landscapes.
Entirely designed by himself, Rocco strives to push the boundaries of traditional parts usage with a particular emphasis on detail, accuracy and realism, as well as furthering the recognition of our collective world heritage.
Since finishing his degree in architecture in 2017, Rocco has been working tirelessly to create the celebration of world heritage that is Brick Odyssey. Tracing the history of architecture over the last 3,000 years his combined works stand as a unique testament not only to his talent, but the monuments that civilization has left behind.
Brick Odyssey presents over 50 spectacular brick sculptures on the themes of architecture, engineering, history and travel. All builds come with accompanying interpretation panels, plus an Artists at Work video, Brick Graffiti Wall, and Play top Stations containing Duplo and System bricks.
The models are presented on high quality custom-lit plinths with Perspex hoods, or custom designed large format plinths. Each is accompanied by informative interpretation captions. Many visitors will simply enjoy the models whilst others might engage by crafting their own brick creations. Some examples of the models and activities presented include:
