Newsletter - June 2021

It has been another busy month! A secret Press shoot, lots of shopping for a new set we are building but the most exciting thing has been preparing to get all of our tours out! Over the next few weeks our tours will be spread across the country and we couldn't be happier! After months of planning and preparing with the venues, following guidance on re-opening, we can finally get our tours back out! We have a busy few weeks ahead getting the tours into the venues and built but so excited to be doing what we love once more.

Exhibition round-up - where you can see them this summer!

It’s going to be a busy few weeks as we get them installed, but we’re very excited that they’re going out!

Starting with Brick City, which opened in the Reading Public Museum a few days ago, all our exhibitions will come online in their venues by the end of this month. If you’re planning on visiting any of our exhibitions, please check the venue’s opening time and visiting policies for details.

So many great venues for our summer tour, hopefully we are coming to a town near you! Brilliant venues now re-opening with great plans for their visitors!

Who ya gonna call?

When there's something strange.... in your neighbour-Hub office... OK, I'll stop the ghostbusters puns now - but what if you do have something a bit unusual that you need help with? Especially if it's made of LEGO!

Around a month or so ago we got an unusual request from a usual customer. LEGO (UK) had a phone box in their central London office - but it needed to be on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Having been installed when the office opened, no-one knew who had built it, or how, or how on earth it could be removed. All they knew was that there was ‘some steel’ inside a ‘mainly unglued’ model. Well, we like a challenge!

You can see the full details of how we disassembled, transported, repaired and installed this British icon in our blogpost, here.

If you missed the phone box when it was in place on the Royal Mile, don't worry as there’ll still be a chance to see it as we’ll be installing it in the brand new St James Quarter, to celebrate the opening of Scotland’s newest LEGO store on 24th June. We won't tell you exactly where though - that much you'll need to work out for yourselves!

Moxy Hotel, Slough

Looking back at some projects we did during 2020, which didn’t get properly showcased at the time.

Sometimes a building’s designs lend themselves really well to being replicated in LEGO bricks. The cladding on the new Moxy Hotel in Slough is just such a building. I say ‘new’ and I really mean it. It was so new it was being built at the same time as we were building our replica of it! We were asked by the construction company - Morgan Sindall - to create a LEGO version of the hotel as their gift to the hotel management.

As an extra nod to the proximity of LEGOLAND Windsor, Morgan Sindall also asked us to create some fun signs for the toilets in the lobby!

You can see more pictures and details on our blogpost, here.

And finally…

We were delighted to receive a visit from one of our local constabulary! Some of you will know that our Studio used to be the local Police Station for Newbattle. The Police were checking on some of their previous premises after some vandalism reports (thankfully we weren’t in fact damaged at all!). Coincidentally, the Officer who visited was the last person to leave the premises, lock the door and officially end Police Scotland’s time in the building. We had a great time showing him around and he was kind enough to say that he loved what we’d done with the space. We couldn’t let him go without grabbing a pic! Thanks, Grant - you and your colleagues are welcome to visit anytime!
