Brick Wonders opens at The Atkinson, Southport

It’s been a very strange summer for everyone this year. Thankfully though, the UK is slowly starting to open up again. With museums and galleries opening as well, what better way to make your visit even more exciting than a LEGO exhibition?

For both our safety and yours, the exhibition might look a little bit different this year. What you won’t see though, is how we installed them. To keep everyone safe - we are now taking on all of the installation ourselves. So that means my wife, Teresa, and I are doing all the work in our own bubble. It’s harder work, yes, but means we don’t need to be lifting heavy items or working closely to anyone else.

If you have visited one of our exhibitions in the past though, you might notice a few small changes in how the exhibitions look this year. The most obvious of which is that there is much more space to move! We’ve worked closely with The Atkinson to develop a floorplan that will let you enjoy the exhibition, whilst remaining socially distanced from other visitors. Even when wearing a mask, it’s still a good idea to space yourself out from other family groups - so that’s exactly how we’ve laid things out.

When you visit, you’ll notice that we’ve also planned a one-way around the gallery. This has also been signposted so it’s obvious which way to go. Don’t worry though, if you want to go back and see an exhibit again, you can always just start back at the beginning!

The one thing that we have had to omit from our exhibitions this year are the interactive areas. So I’m afraid no more LEGO bricks to play with during the exhibition. However, that’s just more reason to go home and play with your bricks at home isn’t it? (That’s my excuse!) We’ve designed some activities that children can do at home - available to download from The Atkinson website.

Of course, the final proof of all this hard work are the visitor reactions. So you can imagine how pleased we were to see this recommendation on the opening day;

Came on the first day of reopening with our 8 year old son. Brilliant lay out & very clear where to go with arrows everywhere, plenty of hand sanitiser & they are doing track & trace. The exhibits were great was a bonus to see all of the Lego on display. Felt very safe.

We couldn’t ask for much more, really!
